1971 Alfa Romeo P33 Cuneo

1971 Alfa Romeo P33 Cuneo

This is the one-off 1971 Alfa Romeo P33 Cuneo by Pininfarina (75033.108). The legendary Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, of which only 18 total examples were produced from 1967 until 1969, was easily one of the most iconic mid-engined sports cars to ever be introduced into the automotive industry. Considering it was one of the world’s very first super cars, a number of different designers and design studio’s were interested in creating their own vision of the 33 Stradale. A total of five 33 Stradale examples were used to create a series of different and very unique one-off concept cars, and this car shown here is just one of them, the 1971 Alfa Romeo P33 Cuneo Concept. The P33 Cuneo was designed by Italian car designer, Paolo Martin, for the well-known Italian design house, Pininfarina. Between 1968 and 1971, Pininfarina designed a total of three concept cars on two total 33 Stradale chassis. In November of 1968, a striking concept was revealed by Alfa Romeo at the Turin Motor Show known as the P33 Roadster. This unique one-off was built based on chassis number 750.33.108. The most talented designers and design houses participated in the recreation of the 33 Stradale body, which included names such as Bertone and Giugiaro as well. The Cuneo has been described by many automotive enthusiasts to have the ‘perfect wedge shape’, and the concept is packed with a number of original and intriguing design elements and ideas. This included the car having no conventional doors, NACA-type air intakes, a thin tubular roll bar, and unique paintwork consisting of strokes of white and Orange paint along the exterior. The concept is said to remain in pristine condition and is reportedly held in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese.
