1992 Allard J2X-C

This is the jaw-dropping 1992 Allard J2X-C. This Group C sports racing car was constructed by a London-based car manufacturer founded in 1945 known as Allard Motor Company. The company was founded by successful rally driver, Sidney Herbert Allard, and produced vehicles in a limited-production fashion before going defunct in 1958. Fast forward to the 1990’s, when a designer by the name of Chris Humberstone obtained the rights from Sidney’s son, Alan Allard to use the Allard family name for the development of a new prototype racing car. Hayden Burvill from Swiss auto racing team, Brun Technics was hired as chief designer to begin the design process of the J2X-C. In 1991, motor racing aerodynamicist, John Iley, joined the team, and now the J2X-C was slowly starting to become a reality. Simultaneously, the group built a total of 3 modified Lexus LS400s in an attempt to attract Toyota as a sponsor for the J2X-C, which unfortunately was unsuccessful. The team moved forward in completing one singular prototype, and initial testing was carried out in July of 1992. The car featured radical bodywork that lead to a high amount of downforce. With the Group C era drawing to a close in 1992-1993, and the J2X-C still unfinished, the company was forced to liquidate it’s assets in the first quarter of 1993. The singular J2X-C was sold to Robs Lamplough. Lamplough had intentions to take the J2X-C to Le Mans. During a test session test for the 1993 24 Hours of Le Mans, where a decision was made not to enter the car. Instead, the car made its racing debut during the IMSA GTP Championship, held at Laguna Seca Raceway, where it placed 9th overall. The car is still believed to be in running condition to this day, and was ran in 2007 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The J2X-C features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a modified Leyton House-March Engineering 6-speed sequential manual transmission, and weighs in at just 1,896lbs.
