On Christmas Eve today, we are sharing a very special car that a member of our community has kindly submitted, and if you haven’t seen or heard of this model before, now is a great time to learn about @lore.f.boh’s 1994 BMW E36 318Is Class II (FK05648), an incredibly rare car of which only 2500 total examples were developed for the entire world, 1500 of which were designated for the German market. The 318Is Class II BMW was only developed in 6 different colors consisting of Cosmos black, Alaska blue, Boston green, Dakar yellow, light red, and alpine white, and this car shown here is 1 of just 121 total examples finished in Boston-Grün (275) for the entire world. The reasoning behind the development of this extremely limited production model was based on BMW’s interest in participating in the ADAC CUP FISA Class II. In order to meet requirements for participation, BMW was required to develop at least 2500 examples of this exact car shown here known as the 328Is Class II/4. This model was only available as a sedan, and chassis numbers for these cars range from FK03771 to FK06696, with this car shown here being FK05648. This model received loads of performance-oriented bodywork including an ‘M-lip’, a two-part rear spoiler, M sports suspension, and much more. All examples of the Class II BMW 318Is featured the ‘Special Equipment Package’ which included the factory M aerodynamics package, amongst a number of other touches that were exclusively available to this model only. According to the owner, this example is believed to be the only one of it’s kind in Italy, and when it comes to racing, the 328Is model proved to be a success after taking 1st place in the 1994 24 Hours of Spa, where the car was entered by the BMW Fina Bastos Team. The 1994 season saw a denial of 2 door coupes, and this was BMW’s response, a 4-door sedan that would comply with FIA Class II/Supertouring rules and regulations.
