2022 Calandra Automobili P001

2022 Calandra Automobili P001

This is the one-of-a-kind 2022 Calandra Automobili P001, a project that once began as a hobby with designs first being crafted in 2007, and led all the way to becoming a registered company in 2022 with a goal for putting this machine into production. Calandra Automobili was created by a father-son duo, Piero Gaspare Calandra, who serves as the project lead engineer, and his father, Gaspare Vittorio Calandra who is the pioneering force behind the majority of the engineering and design of the project. The tubular space frame chassis of the P001 has been engineered, designed and welded in-house by Calandra Automobili, and the only element of the car not to be developed in-house is the powertrain, which is a 4-cylinder Duratec engine with 250hp and a 5-speed ZF gearbox. For now, the prototype features a fiberglass body, but Calandra Automobili will explore the possibilities of working with carbon fiber if there is demand for it. Upon completion, Calandra Automobili debuted the P001 for the first time at the Motorland circuit in Spain. The Calandra family is of Italian heritage, however, the car is built both between Italy and Barcelona, Spain. The color of the example shown here is called ‘Giallo Corsa’, and it’s one of just eight total colors that will be available. With production set as the next step for Calandra, the company is already beginning to take orders for their two models, the GPsport (500hp 3.5L ecoboost engine with 6-speed manual or 6-speed manual sequential gearbox options) and the GPcorsa (750hp 3.5L twin-turbocharged ecoboost V6 with the same gearbox options). In March of 2025, Calandra will announce further information regarding their production cars, which will differ slightly in design in order to improve aerodynamics and efficiency. In total, just 99 units are planned for development across both models.
