2024 Chevrolet Silverado RST First Edition Demo/Prototype

2024 Chevrolet Silverado RST First Edition Demo/Prototype

This interesting car shown here is Chevrolet’s first electric pickup, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado RST First Edition, and this particular example is the Demo/Prototype vehicle (DES2021CHEVS1L), seen at the 2023 NY international Auto Show which is held at the Javits Center in New York. The Silverado model was first ever introduced by Chevrolet in 1999 as the successor to the Chevrolet C/K model line. The Silverado is offered in trims such as full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The Silverado has been developed across four different generations since its introduction, and current day, although it doesn’t share the same underpinnings with the ICE-powered Silverado, the EV model lineup is their newest addition. It’s important to note that the Silverado name was indeed used prior to 1999, but only as the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks beginning in 1975. Production for an EV model was announced in 2021 with plans to be built at the General Motors automobile assembly plant known as Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly, or also, Factory Zero. The announcement was made by current President of General Motors Mark Reuss, and with a targeted range of 400 miles, the new EV Silverado was officially revealed in January of 2022 at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The original Silverado platform is no longer used, and instead, the EV variant utilizes a battery electric platform which is shared with the GMC Hummer EV. Two trim levels for this new EV variant are available, consisting of either a 510hp WT (a fleet-oriented work truck), or the 664hp RST First Edition, which is what you have shown here. The RST offers large aluminum-alloy wheels, a luxury leather-trimmed interior, as well as a a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration on the interior.
