This is the one-off 2012 de Macross Epique GT1, a car only a true obscure car enthusiast would know about, and one that even some of the most seasoned historians and researchers might have missed over the years. The Epique GT1 is a Canadian built car designed by a Korean entrepreneur by the name of Jahong Hur. It’s no secret designing and building your own car can become a very difficult project, however, when it comes to one-offs & concepts, this happens to be one of the most underrated in terms of both design and function. Although this car appears to be a full-blown race car exteriorly, there is the precense of traction control, ABS, and manually adjustable right height, just in case you wanted to take the one-of-a-kind de Macross comfortably through public roads. The car itself uses a few components directly out of the famous Ford GT such as the engine block and transmission, but the Epique GT1 is mostly bespoke and original, and not considered to be a kit or replica car in any way shape or form. The chassis itself was developed by the very-well known and highly praised automotive engineering company, Multimatic. Multimatic helped de Macross incorporate F1 technology into their car, and the purpose built chassis was developed using aluminum and carbon fiber, with a body constructed entirely out of hand-made aluminum. Rumors for de Macross to enter the Epique GT1 into production were circling around 2011-2012, however, this idea never came to fruition for the company. The plan was to produce a possible 20-30 cars with this car shown here as the official prototype. This exact car was also featured on an episode of @jaylenosgarage! The de Macross Epique GT1 remains a fascinating glimpse into what could have been and a bold statement of innovation, ambition, and craftsmanship that still turns heads over a decade later.
