1997 De Tomaso Guarà Spider

1997 De Tomaso Guarà Spider

This is an absolutely magnificent 1997 De Tomaso Guarà Spider (ZDT8950000A800009), 1 of just 4 total believed to have been built for the entire world. The Guarà was the last project from De Tomaso in which Founder Alejandro De Tomaso was personally involved with. The Guarà’s chassis was based on that of the 1990 Maserati Chubasco concept car which was later used as the basis for the 1991 Maserati Barchetta Stradale prototype and subsequent 1992 Maserati Barchettas (16 built). The chassis was than revised and utilized on the Barchetta-based DeTomaso Guará models. The the aluminum honeycomb backbone frame was complimented with exterior bodywork styled by Carlo Gaino, the founder of Synthesis Design and also the designer of the Maserati Barchetta, and the materials consisted of fiberglass, kevlar and a variety of other composites. The suspension setup was designed by race car designer, technical director, and team racing boss Enrique Scalabroni. The suspension consists of unequal length wishbones installed all throughout the race-derived setup, anti-roll bars front and back and inboard-mounted pushrod-operated co-axial Koni spring/damper units. The Guarà made its first ever official debut during the 1993 Geneva Motor Show as a Barchetta model with production of the coupé variation following shortly after in 1994. The first Guaràs off the production line received a 4.0L BMW M60 V8 engine shared with the BMW 840Ci. Later versions of the Guarà utilized a 4.6L supercharged cast-iron block V8 engine from Ford. A majority of Guaràs were coupe examples, however, approximately 4 Spider versions like this car shown here were built by Carrozzeria AutoSport. This example, finished in grey with brown leather is certainly a fine piece of machinery to admire!
