1969 Dodge Charger Daytona

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona

This is the ultra-rare 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona! This unique car was built for one sole purpose back in 1969, to serve as a heavily modified version of the Dodge Charger, with the intention being to use this high-performance, limited-edition variant as a way to win high-profile nascar races. This Charger Daytona is the car responsible for allowing American professional stock car racing driver, Buddy Baker, to become the first driver in NASCAR history to surpass the 200 mph (322 km/h) mark, on March 24, 1970. The Charger Daytona won it’s race during the the inaugural Talladega 500, and went on to accomplish a total of six wins over the course of two years. One of the very first things people notice is the 23-inch-tall (584 mm) stabilizer wing, which can also be seen on the Daytona’s successor, the Plymouth SuperBird. The car was named after Daytona Beach, Florida, which is still is the location where the premier NASCAR event known as the Daytona 500 is held. In order to be able to race this car, Dodge had to produce a minimum of 500 examples. This resulted in just 503 total cars being produced for the world, with this car said to be number 152 on the ‘shipping list’. During a Chrysler car convention in 1982, this specific car spun out of control harmlessly on Chrysler’s proving grounds in Chelsea, Michigan, where it then earned the nickname ‘The Wipeout Daytona’, and became on of the most watched Dodge Daytona videos on YouTube. This example was originally shipped to ‘Gramatan Dodge’ in Mount Vernon, New York, and is wearing it’s original factory color known as ‘F6 Bright Green Metallic’. The options on this car go on endlessly, but it’s important to note that the car is fitted with a (E-86) 440 cu in (7.2 L) Magnum engine, the all glass tint option (G-11), an extremely rare power window option (P-31), and a number of other things that make this car truly collectible, and very rare!
