1950 Ferrari 195 Inter Coupe

1950 Ferrari 195 Inter Coupe

This wildly rare machine shown here is the 1950 Ferrari 195 Inter Coupe by Ghia, chassis number 0087/S. This example is believed to be the oldest Carrozzeria Ghia-bodied Ferrari in the entire world, and is the 1st car built out of the 11 total Ferrari 195 Inter examples styled by Ghia. The Ferrari 195 Inter was introduced in 1950 as a grand touring variation of the Ferrari 195 S, and the public first ever set eyes on the model during the 1950 Paris Motor Show. Ghia was first ever founded in Turin, Italy by Giacinto Ghia as Carrozzeria Ghia & Gariglio in 1915, where their first primary focus was to construct lightweight aluminium-bodied cars. Serial number 0087/S was first ever discovered in Los Angeles in 1965, where it was at the time finished in a red paint job, and was in quite a rough condition overall. The car was purchased then for $1500, and finally, after sitting stagnant in the enthusiastic owner’s garage, by the year 2014, 0087/S was sent to Peter Markowski of Restoration and Performance Motorcars for a full and proper restoration. One problem with 0087/S was that it was fitted with an incorrect 2.3-liter V12 engine, s/n 0145. A 6-year long process consisting of finding the correct engine, determining the original colors, as well as, of course a large amount of body refurbishment, would eventually lead to the car we have shown here today. The car was officially delivered back to its owner in August of 2020, fully restored, and was given the nickname ‘Ava’. 0087/S made its first ever appearance during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2021, sporting its original 2.3-liter V-12 engine and 5-speed transmission, and a fresh paint job in a beautiful pale green color with a dark green interior. If you’re wondering why Ghia-bodied Ferraris don’t come around often, it could be due to the fact that only approximately 35 Ferrari examples total were styled by the Ghia company for the entire world.
