1967 Ferrari Dino 206 S Prototipo Berlinetta Competizione

1967 Ferrari Dino 206 S Prototipo Berlinetta Competizione

This is the 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 S Prototipo Berlinetta Competizione by Pininfarina, which is owned today by a well-known collector, businessman and race team owner, Mr. Jim Glickenhaus (@glickenhaus). The Dino Competizione is an experimental prototype that was constructed by Ferrari with bodywork from the famous Italian design house, Pininfarina (founded by Battista “Pinin” Farina in 1930). This unique model was built based off of Dino 206 S s/n 034’s racing chassis. In total, Ferrari only developed 18 examples of the Dino 206 S. Enzo Ferrari named the first V6 engine developed by Ferrari (which was for the 1957 Formula 2 series) after his son Dino, which is how the Dino cars came to be. From here, Ferrari used the Dino name for a number of racing cars and road cars from 1957 until 1976. This unique one-off model is nicknamed ‘The Yellow Dino’, and some of it’s peculiarities include the large rear wing, gullwing-style doors, as well as a unique fishbowl-style cockpit, all of which were designed by famous Italian car designer, Paolo Martin. This was the third Dino-badged prototype/show car following after the 206 Berlinetta Speciale (0840) and the Dino Berlinetta GT (0106). The origins of this prototype can be traced back to a 1966 Ferrari press conference where three Dino 206 sports racing cars were announced with the intention of racing at Le Mans. One lucky Dino S (chassis 034, later 10523) was shipped to Pininfarina to become a prime example of racecar engineering in a road-going supercar. The result was this beautiful yellow machine, which was equipped with a Tipo 231 B racing V6 engine that was designed by Franco Rocchi and was used in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Pininfarina kept the one-off in their museum for over 30 years before eventually offering the car to Mr. Glickenhaus in 2008.
