This is the 1989 Ferrari F40 Competition Conversion, chassis 80778. A number of Ferrari F40s, originally street cars, were converted to LM/Competition specifications by privateers and raced in Europe, Japan, and the U.S., including chassis 78036, 80369, 80726, 80732, 80735, 80749, 80760, 80762, 80771, 80778, 80780, 80782, 83405, 83498, 83500, 83586, 83667, 83915, 83916, 84326, 85690, 85982, 86440, 88538, 89415, 89465, 91078, 91668, 91979, and 93813. F40 conversion s/n 80778, originally built for Kroymans and raced in the 1991 Porsche/Ferrari Cup in Holland, was highly modified for the Ferrari-Porsche Challenge, with factory build starting on July 18, 1989 and completing on August 4, 1989, featuring engine 19195, gearbox 208, body 197, per Marcel Massini. Ferrari F40 race cars built by Michelotto include several official variants, CSAI-GT, CSAI-GT ’94, LM IMSA GTO (1989 and 1990), Competizione/LM (IMSA and GTC), GTE, and GTE II, each featuring progressive enhancements.
