This is the 2012 Ferrari SP12 EC, a 1 of 1 creation that was developed by Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with the well-known Italian coach building company, Pininfarina, for English rock and blues guitarist, Eric Clapton. As a homage to Clapton’s illustrious career, the SP12 EC was developed on the platform of the companies already existing and quite popular 458 Italia model, and was inspired by the lines of the 512 BB, which Clapton has owned a number of over the years. The ‘EC’ is of course Clapton’s initials, further proving just how special of a client he is to have had a project like this composed for him. While the car doesn’t feature a V12 engine like the 512 BB, the two-tone paint scheme, carb covers, horizontal bonnet slats, and other design elements were incorporated into the styling in order to evoke the beautiful lines of the 1970’s era Berlinetta Boxers. This special one-off was ordered through Ferrari’s ‘One-Off Programme’, and is said to have had a total project cost of around €3,800,000-€4,500,000 ($4,900,000-$5,800,000) which was due to the large amount of reworking conducted by the engineers in Modena. The SP12 was Ferrari’s 11th special project at the time of it’s development, and it’s painted in a beautiful shade of ‘Rosso Fiorano’ over a tan leather interior. The original 458 Italia, which this car is based upon, was first ever officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, and serves as a successor to the companies F430. The 458 was designed by Italian car designer, Donato Coco, who is best known for his styling for Citroën, and has since been produced across multiple variants since it’s introduction. Im 2009, the 458 model won ‘Car of the year’ and ‘Supercar of the year’, and has even been used successfully in racing in championships sanctioned by the ACO (automobile club de l’Quest) and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de L’Automobile).
