This limited-production sports car is the stunning 2016 Ferrari J50 (ZFF88GMJ000232172), 1 of just 10 of its kind built for the world, and the only example to be finished in yellow. This intriguing project consisted of 10 cars all built on the platform of the 488 Spider model. Ferrari announced the 488 Spider in September of 2015 during the Frankfurt Motor Show that year. The 488 Spider serves as a two-seat open-top variation of the 488 GTB Coupe, and is equipped from the factory with a with a folding hardtop roof system, and the same 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in the coupe. The J50 model was crafted by Maranello’s Special Projects team and envisioned by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Italian architect and automobile designer Flavio Manzoni. The model was developed as a way to celebrate Ferrari’s 50th anniversary as presence in Japan, and the model was first ever introduced at the National Art Center in Tokyo in December of 2016. Inspired by Ferrari’s historic racing cars of the past, the car’s shape recalls the streamlined, open designs of earlier models. The car features a carbon fiber two-piece targa top that can be stored behind the seats, replacing the 488’s folding hardtop. Additionally, engine output was boosted by 20 horsepower (15 kW), bringing the total to 681 horsepower (508 kW). A striking feature is the bold black line that runs across the body, reinterpreting a familiar Ferrari design element seen on some of the brand’s other iconic vehicles. The J50 also features a polycarbonate engine cover, a jet engine-inspired rear diffuser, and specially designed 20-inch Forged wheels developed specifically for the J50 model. This particular example is believed to be residing in Japan, and is finished in ‘Giallo Triplo Strato’ and features a ‘Blu Medio’ and cream leather interior with cream stitching.
