1993 Jaguar XJ220

1993 Jaguar XJ220

Thanks to some incredible photos by @nico_saf, today we’re presenting a true rarity, chassis number 220863, a beautiful example of the 1993 Jaguar XJ220 finished in a repainted black color, with gorgeous looking BBS wheels, larger turbochargers, a sports exhaust system, an upgraded suspension system, and much more. This is car number 38 of approximately 280 produced. After being designed by South African automotive designer, Keith Helfet, a concept car called the XJ220 was first ever shown during the 1988 British International Motor Show. Due to dimensions, weight, and environmental emissions, the decision was made to replace the Jaguar V12 engine planned in the concept car with a twin-turbocharged V6. This caused many clients/customers to opt out of purchasing a car, leaving just around 280 total examples built for the entire world. What they didn’t realize at the time is the XJ220 would later go down as the fastest car in the world (top speed) from 1994-1999, officially declared by Guinness World Records. Not only was it the fastest, but it many ways, JaguarSport, which was a joint venture between both Jaguar and the Tom Walkinshaw Motor Racing team, created a machine that was unlike anything on the road at that time. While the production version of the XJ220 didn’t feature a giant V12 engine, the car is powered by a very impressive 3.5 L (3,498 cc) twin-turbocharged Jaguar JRV-6 V6 which produces just about 542 horsepower. Over the course of the cars history, the XJ220 has been used for racing, and there has also been a number of few-off and sometimes even one-off variants of the XJ220 that were built and currently exist still to this day. Read about those, and more on our gallery on @rarecarsonly!
