1993 Jaguar XJ220 ‘S’ conversion

1993 Jaguar XJ220 ‘S’ conversion

This is the 1993 Jaguar XJ220 ‘S’ conversion by @donlawracing, chassis number 220704, engine number 6A 10026 SB, body number 193, and kick plate number 343. This car is not to be confused with the original 1993 TWR Jaguar XJ220 S, chassis 220803. Although they appear visually similar, only 5 total road-going examples of the XJ220 S were converted by Tom Walkinshaw Racing from standard XJ220 examples that were raced and damaged in the Fast Master Racing Series. The original 5 XJ220 S cars consisted of the following chassis numbers, 220793 (Bright Red), 220784 (Bright Blue), 220779 (Orange), 220803 (Yellow), and finally, 220802 (Green). Approximately 4 other cars were also modified by TWR in period that were intended for racing instead of road driving. These cars, known as the XJ220 C consisted of chassis numbers 220836 (car number 51), 220837 (car number 50), and 220838 (car number 52). Chassis number 220839 was used as a spare car. Chassis number 220801 is often referred to as the ‘6th’ XJ220 S, however, this car was actually a one-off racing variant that was built by TWR on the XJ220 S platform. As for this particular car shown here, it’s simply one of several recreations of the XJ220 S/LM completed by Don Law Racing based in the United Kingdom. The car’s original panels were replaced with carbon fiber, and other additions include a new front splitter, an updated suspension, BBS wheels, and an upgraded engine. Chassis number 220704 (shown here) was originally built in September of 1993, and was originally finished in ‘Spa Silver’. Reportedly, 220704 was within the last 12 cars manufactured by Jaguar Cars, and the yellow color shown here is said to have been painted to match the first owner’s helicopter.

How many made? Approximately 297 chassis were manufactured (291 known completed cars)

Engine: the standard XJ220 is powered by a 3.5 L (3,498 cc) twin-turbocharged Jaguar JRV-6 V6 that produces 542hp, however, for the ‘S’ specification cars, the engines are tuned to 690hp.
