2004 Kamala Cars Futuro

2004 Kamala Cars Futuro

When it comes to unique designs, this may be the most different of them all. This is the 2004 Kamala Cars Futuro, and it’s history is just as mysterious and intriguing as the cars styling itself! Before discussing the car however, it’s important to note that before Kamala Cars existed, a company known as DAX Cars or DJ Sportscars was founded in 1968 by a man named Derek Johns, with their main focus being fibreglass moulding, and production of various kit-cars such as AC 427 Cobra and Lotus 7 replicas. One of the cars DAX produced from 1995-2000 was called the Kamala, which was a uniquely designed sports car that was way ahead of it’s time for the late 90’s. The radical looking Kamala was designed by ex-Ford designer, Peter Walker, and in total, only around 30 or so kits were created for that project. Fast forward to 2000, and the production responsibilities of the DAX Kamala would transition from owner of DAX, John Kox, to Specialist car restoration and servicing experts Tony and Mark Keen. Tony and Mark Keen began to expand on the DAX Kamala project, first by changing the name to Kamala Cars England in September of 2001. Under this new naming convention, Tony and Mark Keen would subsequently produce around 13 continuation DAX Kamala examples, and also another unique model called the Futuro, which is the car shown here. In 2004, the first Futuro was completed, and it was very evidently based on the previous DAX Kamala models, with the most notable difference being that fact that the open, Indy racer-style front wheels found on the Kamala were now replaced with closed front fenders that included a new headlight display as well as a few other updated enhancements and changes. The idea behind the Futuro was to offer an easily serviceable (by utilizing many Ford components), high-performance light-weight sports car that demonstrated an unprecedented design. Sometime between 2008-2010, Kamala Cars ceased production.
