This car shown here is the highly peculiar and often forgotten 1987 Lamborghini Countach Restyling Prototype (LAMBORGHINI L150) which did not include the word ‘Countach’ anywhere on the car. In 1978, Lamborghini entered bankruptcy after it had originally been founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini 1963. In 1980, Swiss brothers Jean-Claude and Patrick Mimran were both appointed to administer for the company during its receivership. In January of 1981, ‘Nuova Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SpA’ was officially launched with Patrick Mimran as the new CEO, resulting in the LP500 S (321 units) and the LP5000 QV (610 units). Around this same time, chief engineer at Lamborghini, Giulio Alfieri was asked to spearhead a Countach prototype that would serve as the final iteration of the series. Project Tipo 150 was officially authorized in 1985, and an aerodynamic prototype with improved cooling, a new suspension, and a tuned downdraft engine was shaken down by former chief test driver of Lamborghini, Valentino Balboni in Spring of 1986. The project was eventually replaced with the 25th Anniversary Edition, with styling by Horacio Pagani (with assistance from Rosario Vizzini) who incorporated cooling and aerodynamic attributes from the development of the Evoluzione prototype (Project Tipo 126) in 1987. The Tipo 150 bodywork was instead matched with a fuel-injected engine, painted red, and lots of the experimental mechanics were removed. Some differences from a standard Countach include larger air vents on either side that could open/close automatically depending on the temperature, the shape of the doors, a re-positioned radiator and fuel tank, amongst other changes. The L150 was then wholesaled to Achilli Motors in Milan and eventually landing at Auto Palace in Japan for a reputed ¥400m (over $2.5m). The car was then sold to a Japanese collector named Minoru Miura for ¥100 million ($660,000 in 1989), who has had the car in his collection ever since.
How many made? One-off (Confirmed by Lamborghini).
