At the 1999 edition of the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini introduced a new model known as the Diablo GT. The GT variant (1 of 80) was exclusive to only Europe, and was essentially a track-oriented variation of the already existing Lamborghini Diablo. At the 1999 Bologna Motor Show, Lamborghini had an absolutely unbelievable race-version of the Diablo GT prepared for the crowds in attendance. The car shown that day was the 1999 Lamborghini Diablo GTR, a race-ready, and even more performance-oriented version of the already impressive GT. This example shown here, being offered by @bingo_international (info@bhauction.com) is the 18th of just 30 total examples of the GTR developed by the factory for the entire world. Before the GTR, Lamborghini raced a car known as the Diablo SV-R (1 of 31), which was a lightweight competition version of the Diablo SV, and also Lamborghini’s first ever effort at building a car officially intended for motorsport purposes. The SV-R was used on several tracks around the world and campaigned for four years in the first Lamborghini mono-brand racing series, the Philippe Charriol SuperSport Trophy. For the 2000 season, Lamborghini prepared 30 GTR examples in order to be raced in an all new series known as the Lamborghini Supertrophy. For fours years, the GTR was raced quite successfully in the hands of multiple talented racing drivers such as Australian racing driver, Paul Stokell, Australian Supercars series racing driver, Luke Youlden, Australian Endurance Championship GT race driver, Peter Hackett, and Danish racing driver, Allan Simonsen. A Diablo GTR raced by Team Lamborghini Australia won both the 2003 and 2004 Australian Nations Cup Championships. Some notable features that make the GTR easily distinguishable from the GT include a modified chassis frame with integrated roll bar, lots of weight reduction and added components and an improved exhaust system.
