2003 Laraki Fulgura

2003 Laraki Fulgura

This car here is perhaps one the most intriguing vehicles to ever make an appearance here on @rarecarsonly. This is the 2003 Laraki Fulgura, and the name is associated with the Roman Goddess of Lighting. This example was photographed on 35mm film by carpersonjersey at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show. This unique creation was brought to life by Moroccan car designer, Abdeslam Laraki, who was a former student at the school of design Espera de Franco Sbarro. The Fulgura is believed to be the first sports car ever made by a Moroccan. Interestingly, the original concept shown in 2002 was said to be based on the chassis of a crashed 1991 Diablo, while later on, Laraki reportedly developed their very own aluminum chassis in-house. The concept version of the car, which was shown during a presentation in 2002 at Geneva, was simply a static display model (silver car) with a gorgeous looking design. Only one year later, in 2003, Laraki would resurface with a ‘production ready’ variant, now finished in a bright yellow shade, which is the car shown here. This functional concept was fitted with a Mercedes V8, and would continuously be reworked and redeveloped over the course of the next couple of years until the end 2004, when Laraki would introduce some major changes for the Fulgura model for the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. A newly reworked Fulgura model was presented (orange car, dark blue car) with completely new body styling, that included a mixture of both sharp and smooth lines. The plan for the Fulgura was to complete a limited production run, with a base price of around $555,000. However, since the late 2000’s, Laraki’s plans for the Fulgura have seemingly disappeared. Their latest project supercar known as the Epitome, was presented at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance by Laraki.
