1967 Lehalle Couer De Belle

1967 Lehalle Couer De Belle

This is the 1967 Lehalle Couer De Belle, a unique prototype vehicle constructed in France with the help of a large team of volunteers! During the late 60’s, this wild looking automobile came to life after a French modeler named M. Claude Lehalle designed and built this interesting machine. Based on the running gear of a car known as the R8, which was a small family car sold by French automotive manufacturer, Renault. In order to complete this project, M. Claude Lehalle and his wife moved to an abandoned farm located in Murasson, which is a commune located in France. Upon word spreading of this unique vehicle being developed, Lehalle received assistance from Cooperativa des Métiers, some of the residents living in Murasson, and even Renault themselves. The mayor of Murasson at the time, who happened to be a major car fan, also quickly decided to get involved in the project as well. In order to construct this car, Lehalle turned to a number of local craftsman, mechanics, and blacksmiths in order to finalize what would be his vision of an ultimate dream car. The development of the car was a three-month process, and in June of 1967, the car was shown officially for the first time in Murasson where the project was conceived. The name, ‘Coeur de Belle’, or ‘Carlina Acanthifolia’ is actually the name of a species of perennial herb or flower. Despite it’s extreme looking design, not much is known officially about this vehicle. There are some unique design cues that are evident however, such as a rear opening engine canopy and front canopy that open in a ‘butterfly fashion’. Based on recent photos found in 2015, it appears this unique creation is still in tact, however, appears to have been in need of a restoration. What do you think of this interesting Renault-based machine?
