1997 Maserati Ghibli Cup Campana

1997 Maserati Ghibli Cup Campana

This is the one-off 1997 Maserati Ghibli Cup by Carrozzeria  , an Italian company which made a name for themselves with their 70+ years of work in specialist repairs, full restorations and bodywork for brands such as Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and more. Today, operating as Campana Onorio s.r.l., the company’s historic bodyshop department covers complete restoration work of classic, street and racing cars alike, while their workshop department handles all forms of service. Both departments of Campana are fully authorized by Maserati, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo. The legendary Campana company was founded in 1947 by Onorio and Erasmo Campana, who had both been working for Bacchelli e Bertolini of Modena, Italy. Erasmo and Onorio first began by restoring and recommissioning cars into various fields that had been damaged in battle. The work was handled under Azienda Rilievo Alienazione Residuati (ARAR), the Italian National Unity Government which had been formed after the Second World War. Following this, the duo began creating some of their own prototypes, such as a boat that used a FIAT Topolino chassis and a BMW engine in 1948. After having some success, a partnership was established with Italian sports car manufacturer Automobili Stanguellini, where they built bodies for cars such as the 750 and the 1100. Quickly expanding as time went on, Erasmo and Onorio would eventually work with some of the greatest names in the automotive industry, including Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, De Tomaso and more. Campana began working with Maserati in 1975. For this particular project the basis was a Ghibli Cup, a road-going variation of the Ghibli Open Cup single-make racing car. The car has been treated with a body kit that was designed and developed by Carrozzeria Campana, and is a specially homologated one-off vehicle built for the Italian market.
