2007 Mazda Taiki

2007 Mazda Taiki

This magnificent car shown here is the 2007 Mazda Taiki, a one-off creation designed by Laurens van den Acker, Joseph Reeve and Atsuhiko Yamada. The Mazda Taiki envisions a future of sustainable sports cars while redefining Mazda’s design philosophy. As the fourth entry (after the Nagare, Ryuga, and Hakaze) in the Nagare series, it pushes the “flow” concept to bold new levels, showcasing a design inspired by taiki—the Japanese word for the Earth’s protective atmosphere. With its sculptural lines and innovative presence, the Taiki captures the essence of movement and the spirit of the Nagare legacy. The concept boasts some incredible design characteristics, and eye-catching elements in almost every area you look. The rear wheels, partially enclosed by extended skirts, sit prominently apart from the main body, while a seamless glass canopy envelops both the driver and passenger. Inside the elongated two-seater, the flowing design language carries through, creating a cohesive and dynamic aesthetic. In 2007, the Taiki was set to preview what could possibly be Mazda’s future in sustainability and futuristic design. The Taiki features a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout and planned to incorporate a next-generation RENESIS rotary 1600cc 16X Wankel engine and 7-speed double-clutch gearbox. Joseph Reeve, guided by Atsuhiko Yamada, shaped the exterior of the Taiki with inspiration from the elegant flow of robes, incorporating butterfly doors and achieving an exceptional 0.25 drag coefficient. Aerodynamic efficiency extends to its wheels and tires, enhancing its performance-driven design. Inside, Troy Trinh’s cabin design reflects the Yin-Yang philosophy with a black driver’s side and a white passenger side, drawing further influence from koinobori, the flowing Japanese carp streamers. The model features Ozonic silver paint which was developed specifically for the Taiki.
