2014 Mitsuoka Orochi 7-11 x Evangelion Edition

2014 Mitsuoka Orochi 7-11 x Evangelion Edition

This is the unthinkably rare 2014 Mitsuoka Orochi (光岡大蛇) 7-11 x Evangelion Edition, a car that is unquestionably interesting, and one with a particularly fascinating story behind it. To understand this colorful oddity, first you must know that the Orochi is a Japanese sports car developed by a small company called Mitsuoka Motor (光岡自動車) and was named after ‘Yamata no Orochi’, a mythical 8-headed Japanese dragon. Based on the Honda NSX platform, the Orochi was first ever introduced to the world in 2001 as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. From that point on, Mitsuoka planned for a 400-unit production run over the course of 4 years & subsequently displayed a new variant of the Orochi year after year until 2014. Between concepts, special editions, and more, only a around 100 total Orochi models were offered mostly to the Chinese, Thai and Malaysian markets. The 7-11 x Evangelion Edition Orochi was officially the final edition of the model ever to be offered. In November of 2014, Mitsuoka sent the Orochi model off with a special edition of the Orochi that celebrates the popular anime series, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”. The car is painted with a design by Evangelion mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita and is meant to resemble one of the characters in the series named ‘Evangelion Unit 01’. The fun doesn’t end there, because another company decided to get involved in this project as well, and that company is none other than the same place you buy your occasional slurpees, 7-Eleven. The limited edition model was exclusively available via an application-process at 7-Eleven locations in Japan from November 14th to 30th of 2014. Only 11 were planned to be produced, each with a different paint job, making this car forever to be a true one of one. Other than the cars paint, it’s mechanically identical to the other Orochi models built.

How many made? 11 cars were planned to be built. This car itself is a 1 of 1.
