1993 Monteverdi Hai 650 F1 non-running mock-up

1993 Monteverdi Hai 650 F1 non-running mock-up

This is the ultra-rare 1993 Monteverdi Hai 650 F1 non-running mock-up. Monteverdi was a Swiss luxury car brand which was created by Swiss carmaker, Peter Monteverdi. The company was operating from 1967 until 1984 and during that time they produced some of the most interesting cars sporting some incredibly unprecedented design characteristics. Today we’re going to put our focus on the Monteverdi Hai 650 F1, and what a special car this is! The Hai 650 F1 is a prototype Swiss sports car which in the prototype vehicles, is powered by a Ford DFR V8 engine and has a total weight of just around 1,874lbs. The Hai 650, which ‘hai’ stands for Shark in German, is a high-tech, formula 1 inspired road car. This car shown is one of just 3 total built (2 red prototypes, 1 silver-purple mock-up). The Hai 650 was built entirely on a Formula 1 Chassis, with the intention to build a true formula 1 car for the road. Reportedly customers did place orders for the Hai 650 F1 in period, and rather than building out for the demand, the company decided to keep all the cars they made for themselves! With only 2 running Hai 650’s ever built, this model is possibly one of the rarest F1 road cars that never came to be. The ‘650’ part of the name comes from its total horsepower output (649hp). All three prototypes are believed to be surviving to this day. Peter Monteverdi’s decision to re-enter into the automotive industry in 1992 left us today with one of the most intriguing and rare sports cars to ever exist. For quite some time, you could find a 650 Hai F1 display at the Swiss National Transport Museum in Luzern, Switzerland, giving people the opportunity to experience the passion and dedication that went into the project! Recently, an example was sold by @andreas_wuest_ag and currently resides in the United States!
