1990 Mosler Consulier GTP-LX

1990 Mosler Consulier GTP-LX

This is the 1990 Mosler Consulier GTP-LX (prototype), vin number 43CSA1121LRC1C007! The Consulier GTP is an American sports car that was produced by a company known as Consulier Insustries, which was founded by American economist, politician, and entrepreneur, Warren Mosler in 1985. Mosler had the idea of creating a vehicle that was extremely lightweight, and would utilize the 2.2L four-cylinder engine coming from Chrysler. Mosler and his team would quickly go on to create an extremely unique vehicle known as the GTP, which featured a composite monocoque made of aircraft-grade fiberglass. One particular group that decided to take the challenge was @caranddriver, who set out to the Chrysler test track in Chelsea, Michigan to race the GTP against a stock 1991 Corvette. The race ended in the favor of the Corvette, however, Mosler claimed the GTP used wasn’t necessarily in the best shape and offered to rerun the race. Car & Driver reportedly refused this offer and published the article in favor of the Corvette. The GTP proved itself after a successful race finish during the 1991 auto race at Lime Rock Park, however, this would be the last race any GTP would participate in before being banned from the ISMA series that same year. Chassis 007 (shown here) of around 60-100 produced total was previously owned by American racing driver and inventor, John Fitch. Of the total production of cars built, approximately 10 of them were prototypes, of which only 2 are believed to still exist to this day including this car shown here. The GTP Sport was considered to be the base model, and the LX (shown here) was built more as a luxury option featuring Recaro seats, an Alpine sound system, a sunroof, power mirrors, power locks, air conditioning and a number of other luxury-oriented amenities. Consulier later became rebranded in 1993 to Mosler Automotive and became defunct in 2013.
