2016 Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

2016 Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

Back in the year 1936, an American meat and cold cut producer known as Oscar Mayer developed and icon known as the ‘Wienermobile’, a 13-foot long literal ‘rolling hot dog’ that was developed on a purpose-built chassis made by General Body Company in Chicago. The original Wienermobile was the result of an idea presented by founder, Oscar F. Mayer’s nephew, Carl G. Mayer in the year 1936. Following it’s short promotional use, the first Wienermobile was scrapped for metal due to World War II. Oscar Mayer went on to develop multiple generations of Wienermobiles from 1936 until 2022. This example shown here is a 2016 Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, and it was built by a trailer manufacturer called Spevco in North Carolina. This is the 12th generation of the Wienermobile, with the first being in 1936, followed by five examples in 1952, one example in 1958, two enhanced models shown in 1969, the first Wienermobile to tour a foreign country (Spain), and the last built before the program was discontinued in 1977. It wouldn’t be until 1988 that the company would develop a total of 6 new fiberglass rolling hot dogs. Following this came a one-off in 1995, two updated examples in 2000, a handful in 2004, as well as a ‘mini Wienermobile’ that was built on a Mini Cooper ‘S’ chassis to celebrate the companies 125th anniversary in 2008. The latest iteration of the Wienermobile (shown here) was introduced in 2012, a 27-foot long, 14,500lb, 11 feet tall rolling hot dog constructed on a forward cab box chassis, and equipped with a jingle horn! This Wienermobile (WEENR license plate) is 1 of 6 active Wienermobiles along side BIG BUN, OUR DOG, OSCRMYR, YUMMY and WNRMBLE. Oscar Mayer also commissioned a number of other special Wiener-esque machines, such as the Wiener Rover, Wiener Drone, Wiener Cycle, and much more including jet packs, and other wild means of transportation!
