1990 Peugeot 905 Evo 1 Bis

1990 Peugeot 905 Evo 1 Bis

This is a 1990 Peugeot 905 Evo 1 Bis #2 (EV11). The Peugeot 905 is a Group C prototype race car engineered by Peugeot Talbot Sport, Peugeot’s motorsport division formed in the early 1980s. The 905 features a carbon fiber chassis developed with aerospace company Dassault. Built at Peugeot’s Vélizy-Villacoublay facility, the car was publicly introduced on July 4, 1990, at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, with experienced driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille leading its first demonstration. The 905 was designed by André de Cortanze and Enrique Scalabroni and was succeeded by the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. The 905 featured an impressive lineup of drivers including Mauro Baldi, Philippe Alliot, Keke Rosberg, Yannick Dalmas, Derek Warwick, James Rossiter, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Karl Wendlinger, Eric van de Poele, Alain Ferté, Christophe Bouchut, and Éric Hélary. Over its career, the Peugeot 905 participated in 17 races, achieving 9 wins, 18 podiums. From 1991 to 1993, the Peugeot 905 evolved significantly both technically and competitively. In 1991, the introduction of the 905B helped secure key victories at Suzuka, Magny-Cours, and Mexico City. In 1992, further refinements to the chassis and powertrain produced several variants including EV12, EV16, and EV17, leading to dominant performances with multiple wins including Silverstone, Donington, Suzuka, and Magny-Cours, culminating in a landmark overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 1993 season saw Peugeot focus exclusively on Le Mans with the Evo 1B version (EV12), which delivered a historic 1st place finish. Chassis EV11, completed in 1990, was the very first Peugeot 905 ever built. Initially used extensively for testing and development, it then served as the team’s backup car during the final two World Championship rounds. In 1993, EV11 earned a pole position and secured a strong third-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
