One thing we love here on RareCarsOnly is a great concept car, and this car which was designed by exterior designer Sandeep Bhambra is certainly one of the most interesting looking we’ve seen thus far. This is the 2012 Peugeot Onyx concept car, a mythical creation that was revealed during the 2012 Paris Motor Show after being put together by French car manufacturer, Peugeot. Bhambra worked with the Peugeot design center and French car designer Gilles Vidal in order to complete this interesting project. The colored areas of the Onyx are made with pure copper, while the other body panels are finished in carbon fiber that is painted matte black. Despite being a concept car, Peugeot packed this machine with a a Peugeot Sport V8 PSA HYbrid4-HDi-FAP 3.7 L Peugeot 908 engine from the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans Prototype, allowing for up to 680hp, a 0-60mph time of around 2.9 seconds, and a wild top speed of around 220mph. The cars innovative 80hp HYbrid4 technology recovers kinetic energy and stores it in lithium-ion batteries for use during acceleration. The interior is just as stylish and futuristic as the exterior and features a dashboard made out of Newspaper Wood, a material which is created using compressed old newspapers. The car’s structure is composed of monolithic carbon and is comprised of 12 total pieces, which were developed and designed by Peugeot’s Research and Development Division, Peugeot Sport. The interior upholstery on the car is made up of recycled felt, and it’s clear that the idea was to create a car as environmentally friendly as possible, while also showcasing great performance and a unique design as well!
