This work of art shown here captured by @keystothejungle at the @petersenmuseum is known as the 1981/1988 Porsche 911 SC Targa ‘Spexter’ (WP0EB0910BS160711) by Montreal-based Wingho Auto Classique Inc., a one-off creation by former mechanical engineering professor Dr. Clyde Kwok. As an enthusiast and a collector himself, the ‘Spexter’ was originally designed to be a modern take on the iconic Porsche 356 Speedster, which Kwok happened have a number of over the years. A kit car manufacturer by the name of Spex Design Corporation was selected to complete the custom coach-built project, and over the course of nine total years from sketch to clay, and eventually a full-scale foam model, the idea officially came to life in the year 1988 thanks to Spex Design founders Paul Deutchman & Kell Warshaw. Upon its introduction to the public, the ‘Spexter’ captured the attention of enthusiasts around the world, appearing on magazine covers such as a Motor Trend issue in 1988. In order to develop this interesting one-of-a-kind machine, the original body panels were replaced for Kevlar and fiber-glass composite bodywork that is reminiscent of the original 356 Speedster design, and the styling is complimented perfectly with a low plastic windscreen giving off a true open-top roadster feel. While still using the original chassis, the ‘Spexter’ comes in at around 8 inches longer than the donor car used, and interestingly, no roof, or side windows are offered on this vehicle whatsoever. The ‘Spexter’ was finished in a well-known Porsche silver metallic paint job, and other unique details include a set of BBS modular racing wheels, smoked headlights and taillights, and a simplistic interior set up with a three-spoke steering wheel and a push button ignition. The seats of the car are specifically designed to seat someone who is 5 feet 10 inches tall, and only the most necessary instruments such as the tachometer and oil/fuel gauges are present inside the cockpit.
