This incredible car shown here is a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT chassis number 1255, finished in a madly rare paint shade known as Paint To Sample ‘Zanzibar Red Metallic’ (orangerotperlcolor/1A8). Aside from just the paint shade alone, a number of other unique touches differentiate this Carrera GT from just about any others out there, including body color-matching wheels, and a stunning dark grey interior with red stitching. Only a few total examples of the Carrera GT were finished in this shade from the factory, and of any of the ‘Zanzibar Red’ Carrera GT examples, only one of them is said to have been a European version (no indicator on the front bumper), and that’s this car. Interestingly, this car shown here was imported to Germany from Russia, but was rumored to have sat neglected and abandoned inside of a deserted car dealership in China for around 8 years. That rumor of this Carrera GT (1255) sitting in China has been uncovered online as untrue, and that car is actually chassis 1139, a Guard’s Red example. The Carrera GT was designed by Dutch automobile designer, Harm Lagaay, and was originally codenamed ‘Project Code 980’ before going into production in 2003. Both Porsche themselves, and VW-Audi chairman, Ferdinand Piëch, we’re seeking to develop a new Le Mans prototype for the 1999 season. Initially, plans to incorporate a turbocharged flat-six engine were drawn up for this new mysterious prototype, however, a secretly built V10 unit that was developed in 1992 was ultimately revived for the project. This engine was originally supplied by Porsche for the Footwork Formula One Team, however, the Le Mans prototype project was ultimately canceled, however. The V10 unit that was being tested in that prototype would live to see another day in the year 2000, at the Paris Motor Show. This time, it was based around a new concept car called the Carrera GT, considered today as one of the worlds greatest supercars.
