2017 Rolls-Royce Sweptail

2017 Rolls-Royce Sweptail

The 2017 Rolls-Royce Sweptail is a one-of-a-kind creation that embodies the highest levels of bespoke craftsmanship, timeless design, and personal expression. Commissioned by a single client with a passion for classic Rolls-Royce models and luxury yachts, this extraordinary motor car took four years to build and made its official debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in May 2017. Constructed entirely by hand at the marque’s Goodwood facility in West Sussex, the Sweptail draws its underpinnings from the Phantom Coupé, utilizing a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout and a 6.75-liter V12 engine paired to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. What sets the Sweptail apart is not only its rarity but its design, inspired by both early 20th-century Rolls-Royce models and sleek superyachts. The sweeping roofline, gently falling waist-rail, and distinctive rear end give the car an elegant nautical aesthetic that flows seamlessly from front to rear. The large panoramic glass roof stretches uninterrupted over the cockpit, allowing light to pour into the cabin and showcasing a level of interior sophistication few vehicles have ever matched. Inside, the philosophy centers on elegance through simplicity. There are no rear seats, instead, in their place sits a beautifully appointed mid-shelf and wood luggage deck, reminiscent of a private jet or luxury yacht lounge. Materials include polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao, which create contrast against the Moccasin and Dark Spice leather surfaces that cover the seats, fascia, and armrests. Switchgear is minimal and discreet, with emphasis placed instead on the craftsmanship of every surface and detail. Rear-hinged doors open wide to reveal an interior designed with deliberate restraint and deep personalization, a space tailored entirely to the wishes of its owner. The Sweptail was the most expensive new car in the world when new, estimated at £10 million.
