2012 Ruf CTR3

2012 Ruf CTR3

This is the 2012 Ruf CTR3 (W09BM0383CPR06013), which is a limited-production, mid-engined sports car produced by German car manufacturer Ruf Automobile. Ruf Automobile GmbH is a German car manufacturer that engineers original vehicles using unmarked Porsche chassis, and was founded in 1939 by Alois Ruf Sr. as ‘Auto Ruf’. RUF earned it’s highly praised reputation through customizing and modifying Porsches over the years, but the CTR3 model is a creation of their very own. The CTR3 platform was developed in conjunction with the Canadian supplier Multimatic, and the model was designed by Bennett Soderberg. The Ruf-designed body shares styling and engine similarities with the Porsche 987 Cayman and Porsche 997.1 Turbo, and the idea was to create a design that would be reminiscent of vintage Le Mans race cars of the 1950s and 1960s. Ruf adopted the mid-engined layout of the the Porsche Cayman, and the chassis is a frame construction made with zinc-dipped steel, and billet aluminum by Multimatic that Ruf calls ‘the Birdcage’. The panels of the CTR3’s body are developed using kevlar-carbon composites. The standard CTR3 was produced from 2007 until the Clubsport’s introduction in 2012. In order to continue to Ruf tradition of enhancing Porsche automobiles, the CTR3 of course featured engine components and body styling similar to already existing Porsche’s. With the introduction of the Clubsport model came the arrival of an optional 7-speed Dual-clutch transmission, on top of a completely revised engine. 31 CTR3 examples were built, however only 7 CTR3’s were ‘Clubsport’ variants featuring more power and improved performance. The standard CTR3 is powered by a 3.7L twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that produces 691 horsepower. The CTR3 ‘Clubsport’ however, featured a revised version of the same engine with a power boost up to 766 horsepower.
