Out of all the special one-off/few-off projects Alfa Romeo had created, this is certainly one of those cars that stands out from the crowd. This is the 1953 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Superflow IV “Pininfarina” (VIN 1361-00128), and it’s perhaps one of the most special Alfa Romeo examples ever created. In 1953, Alfa Romeo launched a new model known as the Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM (Competizione Maggiorata), in the hopes to create a successful endurance racing car. Only six of these cars were built (4 coupes, 2 spiders), and the focus of these cars was to compete in competitions such as the Mille Miglia and Le Mans. One of the Spiders was able to successfully win the 1953 Supercortemaggiore with the famous Argentine racing car driver, Juan Manuel Fangio, behind the wheel. After the cars were done racing, almost all of them were eventually rebodied by various design houses such as Zagato & Pininfarina. This car shown here was sent to Pinin Farina in 1954 (which at that time was two words), and over the course of the next four years, the Turin-based coachbuilder would craft a series of styling studies using the original racecar chassis. By 1956, Pinin Farina was able to construct a new, sleeker body for chassis 00128, and subsequently presented the car at the Turin Motor Show that year, where it earned the ‘Superflow’ name. Only 6 months later, the car was restyled yet again, now known as the Superflow II, and was presented at the Paris Salon in 1956. After 3 more years went by, in 1959, the car would see it’s third styling revision, with each variation adding new colors and aerodynamic features. This third rendition was now known as the Superflow III. Finally, in 1960, the car was transformed into it’s final form, the Superflow IV. The car features a bright red paint finish, a large glass roof canopy with sliding panels, and removable side windows.
