1975 Alfa Romeo Eagle

1975 Alfa Romeo Eagle

If you’ve never seen, or heard of this Alfa Romeo, that wouldn’t be surprising considering it’s believed just 1 example was ever constructed. This is the 1975 Alfa Romeo Eagle, a concept car that was styled by Italian automobile designer and the chief stylist with Carrozzeria Pininfarina (1974-1988), Aldo Brovarone, and not only did he create the design for the Eagle, but this car would also become the very last project Brovarone completed for Pininfarina as well. The Eagle concept was created as a way to explore the development of a ‘sports spider’ with a safety roll bar, and the possibility of creating such an open car while also retaining a good deal of security and safety features as well. The Eagle is built using the chassis and mechanics of the Alfetta Berlina, and uses the Alfetta GT as a base. The design for the Eagle concept was inspired by the Alfa Romeo 33/TT/12 in particular, and the rearward-inclined roll-over bar is easily one of the most notable characteristics that is first noticed upon looking over this machine. The interior was quite advanced, offering a wide variety of features such as a mono-spoke steering wheel as well as fully digital instrumentation. While the model seemed promising and looked quite impressive on the show stand, the management at Alfa Romeo ultimately decided to leave the Eagle to remain as a concept car, while shifting focus to refresh the style of the Duetto model instead. Aldo Brovarone's very last design prototype was officially presented during the Torino Automobile Show in 1975, and it was reportedly one of the first ever attempts of fitting a fixed roll-bar onto a spider, which ultimately would increase passenger safety in the event of a tip over while driving.
