This car, vin number ZAR92000000038915 is 1 of just 8 ‘Disco Volante’ coupe models built, with this example being finished in ‘Rosso Competizione’ over a black leather interior. The modernized Disco Volante was built with inspiration from the original Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 ‘Disco Volante’ built from 1952–1953 in collaboration with Milanese coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring. Touring’s new ‘Disco Volante’ is based on the already exclusive Alfa Romeo 8C chassis (500 coupes and 500 spiders). After receiving a donor 8C chassis, converting the car into ‘Disco Volante’ form takes reportedly ofer 6,000 hours of hard work and precision to complete. The design for both the Disco Volante coupe & spyder can be credited to Louis de Fabribeckers as head of design at Carrozzeria Touring during this project. The mechanics from the donor 8C remain unchanged, leaving the Disco Volante to perform rather similarly overall. The Disco Volante Spyder which was introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show was a follow-up to the coupe model and was built in 7 units based upon the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider. The modifications made to both the Spyder and coupe versions of the Disco Volante are mostly cosmetic in comparison to the donor 8C cars.
