This unique machine shown here is known as the 1979 Bianco S Series 2 Coupè (BS02830978), a Brazillian sports car created by racecar engineer Ottorino ‘Toni’ Bianco. Toni Bianco, who initially worked in banks and construction after moving to Brazil from Venice, became a renowned racecar designer, and is credited for creating Brazil’s first Formula 3 car and founding the Bianco sports car marque in the 1970s, producing models like the Bianco S, Bianco 2 Series, and Bianco Tarpan. The Bianco S model debuted for the first time at the 1976 São Paulo Motor Show. The Bianco S showcased a body crafted from reinforced plastic and fiberglass, and it’s built atop Volkswagen Beetle mechanical components. The Bianco S features a fiberglass body and aside from the Beetle chassis, the model also received additional steel reinforcement on the sides and in the front, in order to allow for more safety. The Series 2 variant incorporated a range of cosmetic updates, including improved sealing, the removal of hood louvres and alterations to the engine’s ventilation system. Additionally, its lighting setup featured dual round headlights positioned lower than before, alongside side markers and taillights sourced from Opel. The cabin features black leather trim, wood accents, power windows, and a Motoradio cassette player. The rear-mounted 1.6L Volkswagen flat-four with dual carburetors is mated to a four-speed manual transaxle, and this beautiful example is finished in gold with 14” black alloy wheels. In total, from 1976 until 1979, it’s estimated that between 200 and 400 of these intriguing cars were developed across all variations, and it’s uncertain as to how many are left in existence today. As recently as 2018, at the impressive age of 86, Bianco was still working on projects in his garage, proving his dedication to his craft and commitment to his idea.
