This is the 2nd of 2 of it’s kind made for the world, the hand-built 2015 Contera MD1 development car, a three-seater supercar with tons of history and amazing features. UK-based company Contera Cars was developed by both David Halford and Michail Papastergiou. The MD1 was their first ever completed car built, however, both had a long history of creating & modifying supercars before this eye-catching model was built. Easily the single-greatest element of design to the Contera MD1 is of course, the three-seat interior design, positioning the driver of the car in the center of the passengers. This design is reminiscent of the McLaren F1 & now the McLaren Speedtail, however, Contera Cars claims this design came ‘out of necessity by way of design’ allowing for the best visibility and driving experience behind the wheel. The design of the MD1 is credited to Papastergiou, while Halford handled the technical side of the project. The engine bay of the car was designed to fit anywhere from a V6-V12 and when the car was first announced, it was planned to become a made-to-order project, building cars for clients at their request. It’s clear by the appearance of the car, this was not just some average kit-car project, and the team of two worked hard to make this car both functional properly & display wonderfully. With that in mind, the Contera MD1 offers a close to 50-50 weight distribution, and not only was the car built for the road, but it also incorporated racing applications in the cars design as well. The exterior body design is very much Group C inspired with a gorgeous wrap-around windscreen, sweeping lines, and a dominant presence. On the interior, expect to find tons of carbon fiber, and even modern technologies found in today’s supercars such as a digital dashboard, reverse camera, CD/MP3 player, and even a full heat/air conditioning system as well. This particular example differs slightly from the first car built.
