1994 Design Performance Barramunda

1994 Design Performance Barramunda

This will be perhaps the most unknown car we have posted about ever on RareCarsOnly. Not only is there not much information on the car itself, but also a very limited amount of info regarding the actual company that produced the car. This is the absolutely wild 1994 Design Performance Barramunda. Now you’re probably asking yourself, what on earth even is that? Here are some of the unique details and bits of information regarding the bright yellow Barramunda. First it’s important to note that Design Performance was a French-based company that has existed since 1987, and one of the companies main shareholders was French Grand Prix motorcycle racer & Formula One driver, Jean-Pierre Maurice George’s Beltoise. Also believed to have been involved with Design Performance was former Citroen employee & car designer, Erick De Pauw, according to a document published online to which his signature is printed on the bottom. Moving beyond assumption, what is known about this car is that the car “blends the passion of the automobile and the sea”, according to French automaker Design Performance. One of the main goals behind the design of this car was to actually comfortably fit a full jetski, and two surfboards in the back. At over 13.8 feet long, this bright yellow machine is not only interesting, but also quite large. On the interior of the car, the aquamarine them continues featuring a mostly teal-colored cabin, which creates an overall ‘marine’ ambience. The seats of the Barramunda are integrated into the chassis, leaving the driver the ability to adjust both the steering wheel and the pedals only for comfort & driveability. According to a letter published online sent from De Pauw, in order to develop further recognition for the brand, the car was set to be presented at the 1994 Paris Motor Show. Also noted in the letter, when the model was to be completed, the price would be anywhere from $160,000-$180,000.
