2003 Evans 386 LM/387 Prototype

2003 Evans 386 LM/387 Prototype

Today’s car is probably one of the most unknown and mysterious vehicles that we’ve ever posted. This is the 2003 Evans 386 LM/387 Prototype (chassis 003) and although barely any information is published anywhere on this car, we will tell you all there is to know about it! Evans Automobiles was an American automobile company founded by John Evans in 1984 and they are best known for producing US EPA and DOT legal cars that shared the design cues and performance features of the then current (1980’s) Group C and GTP cars. After speaking personally on the phone with John Evans himself, I was able to source out some unpublished information on this car. This 386 Prototype was the third overall GT road-legal vehicle produced by Evans Automobiles and it was built with a full carbon tub with an aluminium honeycomb core. The engines were initially to be built by a man named Jim Ruggles, who was an engine builder that specialized in mostly Buick. The car was designed by artist & automobile designer Dave Lynn. The Evans 386 Prototype was initially built for the Le Mans GT1 class, taking inspiration from the first car to dominate that class, the McLaren F1. This car could possibly be the purest definition of race car for the road ever. The 386 was designed with a pure racing platform that would permit the then current LMP1 rules to be fully exploited. It was also intended to be the companies ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) verification car & EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certification car. This menacing racer featured common road-car elements such as catalytic converters, road legal wheels, adjustable seats, a non-race fuel filler, turn signals, & Hydraulic jackers were also added to facilitate realistic road use. The car is now located in New Hampshire and owned by a man named Joe Silva. I hope this serves as one of the most accurate sources of information on the Evans 386 Prototype!
