1967 Ferrari 412 P

1967 Ferrari 412 P

This stunning 1967 Ferrari 412 P, chassis number 0850, is a rare racing machine derived from the 330 P3. Built for private racing teams such as Scuderia Filipinetti (chassis 0848), Maranello Concessionaires (0854), NART (0844), and Francorchamps (0850), the 412 P differs from factory race cars by using Weber carburetors rather than the factory’s Lucas fuel injection. This modification ensured Ferrari’s works P4 models maintained an edge in performance, as the carburetors reduced engine power in the customer cars. With only two 412 Ps originally constructed, 0850 and 0854, these cars are among the most prized. The cars retained the P3 chassis construction but used a carbureted 4.0-liter V12 engine block, differing from the P4’s design. Production of the P3 chassis in 1966 faced delays due to labor strikes, meaning the remaining chassis were completed as 412 Ps in 1967. Ferrari later modified P4 chassis 0846 with a P3 chassis and P4 engine for the 1967 season. Changes in 1968 regulations excluded the 412 P from the International Championship of Makes due to the 3-liter engine limit. Chassis 0850 was first painted Ferrari red, but when purchased by Jacques Swaters, it was repainted yellow, a color synonymous with his Ecurie Francorchamps team, who raced in Belgium’s national color. In 1967, 0850 competed in major races like the Daytona 24 Hours, Spa 1000km, and Montlhery, where it had notable finishes despite technical issues. By 1968, Jean Blaton used it in the Belgian Hillclimb Championship before selling it to Dean Martin Jr. The car was then converted for street use and later fully restored under Paul Pappalardo’s ownership in 1976. After repairs, it returned to original condition with the help of Francois Sicard.

How many made? Only two Ferrari 412 Ps were originally built as new models: chassis 0850 and 0854. Two other cars, 0844 and 0848, were later converted by Ferrari to 412 P specifications for customer use.
