1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider Valeo

1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider Valeo

This is the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider Valeo, a one-off project built specifically for Italian industrialist Gianni Agnelli as a celebration of 20 years since he had become president of Fiat in 1966. Ferrari started construction of the body in February of 1986, with a finished product being ready just 4 months later in June. The car was first ever registered in Turin, Italy with the number plate ‘TO 00000G’. The Testarossa model first went into production in 1984 as the successor model to the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer (BB), and with approximately 9,939 total examples produced (including the 512 TR & F512 M), it’s one of Ferrari’s most mass produced models that they’ve ever created. The Testarossa was designed by a collaborative effort from Leonardo Fioravanti, Ian Cameron, Guido Campoli, Emanuele Nicosia, Diego Ottina while working for the Italian coach building and design firm, Pininfarina, and following the end of the Testarossa’s production, two additional model revisions were created, the 512 TR & F512 M. The model was shown for the first time ever at the 1984 Paris Motor Show. The Testarossa’s aerodynamic drag coefficient of Cd=0.36 was quite low in comparison to the Lamborghini Countach’s 0.42 at the time, and ultimately, the model had great reception from the media and consumers. Of the 9,939 examples produced through 1984–1996 (including the 512 TR & F512 M), only 1 example was built as a Spider in Maranello by Ferrari themselves. The silver color shown here (Argento 101/C) was chosen specially because AG (standing for Agnelli Gianni) is the symbol for silver on the periodic table. Considering this car is a factory-built Spider, there is are a number of added buttons and switches that aren’t normally found on a Testarossa, such as a Valeo electronic clutch system accessible by the push of a button. Pininfarina and other companies have also modified a number of other Testarossa examples to become Spiders.
