Considering how many one-off and few-off projects Ferrari takes on, it’s easy to have one or two of them drift away from the spotlight, leaving many to not even know of their existence. The 1993 Ferrari FZ93/ES1 by Zagato should easily one of those special be considered as one of those projects that deserves much more attention. The FZ93 was designed and built under the guidance of Ercole Spada, who rejoined Zagato in September of 1992 as Chief Designer. This one-of-one super car was built on the chassis of a Ferrari Testarossa (83935), and was subsequently named the FZ93, F standing for Formula, Z standing of course for Zagato, and 93 indicating the model year the car was built. During the cars debut in Geneva, it was displayed with a two-tone paint scheme, however, this was later changed by Zagato to a full red-colored exterior finish. With the fresh coat of red paint also came a new name, which was ES1, after it’s designer Ercole Spada. Inside the sharply-designed FZ93 reveals special ergonomic racing seats developed by Sparco and a largely minimal interior design. Like most Zagato designs, the famous ‘Double Bubble’ roof can be seen on the FZ93, and the F1-style nose clearly made it’s way onto the production Ferrari Enzo only a handful of years later. As recently as 2010, this unique machine was offered for sale on a website known as Mobile.de for around $1,400,000, however, whether or not a buyer was ever found was not made public. As of today, the car is reportedly held in the Zagato Collection located in Milan, Italy. While the FZ93/ES1 may be controversial, it’s certainly an interesting Ferrari one-off. Not to mention the fact that the car operates on 512 TR mechanics, ensuring for a lively and exciting driving experience behind the wheel. What do you think of the FZ93
