1999 Ferrari F355 Spider

1999 Ferrari F355 Spider

This car shown here is a beautiful 1999 Ferrari F355 Spider (ZFFXR48A2X0113646) finished in ‘Argento’ with a dark blue leather interior, and pictured here during the 2022 Ft.Lauderdale @rmsothebys auction in Florida. The Ferrari F355 (Type F129) was developed by Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, Ferrari in just 11,273 total units from 1994 until 1999, making this car shown here the very last year of production for the model. The F355 was designed by Italian car design firm and coachbuilder, Pininfarina, and is powered by an impressive 3.5-litre 5V F129 B/C V8 engine that produces around 375hp at 8,250rpm. The Spider variant (shown here), and the targa-top GTS were introduced for the 1995 model year. The engine for the F355 model was designed by Paolo Martinelli, and the transmission issues that plagued earlier Ferrari models was seemingly absent on the F355, with the introduction of a newly developed 6-speed manual transmission, and a Formula One-style electrohydraulic-operated automated manual 6-speed paddle-shift transmission (cars with this transmission are called the F355 F1). The name, ‘F355’ is derived from the car’s 3.5L engine capacity, and 5 valves per cylinder. After going through approximately 1800 hours of wind tunnel testing, the F355 Spider variant officially debuted for the 1995 model year. Remarkably, this marked the very first time that a Ferrari automobile would be offered for sale with an electronically powered automated manual soft-top roof. At first, the Spider came offered with only Ferrari’s iconic, gated, six-speed, manual transmission, however, in 1997, Ferrari introduced the F1 transmission as an option. A total of 3,717 units of the Ferrari F355 Spider were produced for the entire world, with just 2,664 of them being equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, and around 1,053 with the F1 transmission.
