This very special car shown here was built to celebrate Giugiaro’s 50th anniversary of designing cars in 2005. This is the 2005 Ferrari GG50 (Giorgetto Giugiaro 50), a concept which was built based on the production Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, and designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro himself. To mark 50 years of being active in the automotive design industry, Giugiaro gave a standard 612 Scaglietti his own design flare, with the full approval of Ferrari President at that time, Luca di Montezemolo. Only one condition was given to Giugiaro for the project, and that was to have no restrictions on creativity, however, maintain the tradition of the Ferrari brand at the time. As Giugiaro has done from the very beginning, the GG50 project started out with hand-drawn sketches, and later translated into a full-size concept. In comparison to the original 612 Scalietti platform, the wheelbase of the GG50 is identical, but the overall length of the car is about 9cm shorter. One of the most notable differences on the GG50 in comparison to the original 612 Scaglietti is the positioning of the fuel tank. On the 612, the fuel tank is positioned vertically behind the rear seats, while on the GG50, Giugiaro asked his ItalDesign engineers to concentrate on positing the new 95-liter fuel tank below the trunk platform line. By doing this, with the rear seats folded down, a flat trunk platform was created, ultimately increasing the cars loading capacity a generous amount. One of the more instantly recognizable design changes is the tail, which shows a much sleeker and stiffer appearance as opposed to the 612 Scaliegetti’s somewhat rounded rear end. Other than the increased storage capacity on the interior, much is left unchanged from the original 612 layout. The interior offers beige leather seats that use the same structural from as the 612, however, one new addition is in the dashboard, which is fitted with a AVIC - X1R satellite navigator by Pioneer.
