2014 Ferrari Sergio

2014 Ferrari Sergio

As a tribute to Italian automobile designer, Sergio Pininfarina, the son of Battista "Pinin" Farina, the founder of the Italian coachbuilding company, Pininfarina, Ferrari produced six special cars known as the Ferrari Sergio. This particular example shown here is ZFF75VFA5E0205934, the 2014 Ferrari Sergio, a limited-production specialty model that was constructed with bespoke bodywork upon the chassis of a 458 Special Aperta. Battista Farina passed along the Pininfarina company to his son, Sergio in the year 1966, and under Sergio’s ownership, he was responsible for some of the world’s most remembered Ferrari models, such as the 328, the 360 Modena, and the Ferrari F40. In the year 2001, Sergio passed the company along to his son, Andrea, and following Sergio’s passing in 2012, Ferrari decided it was only right to honor his great work by developing a series of very special cars, named after Sergio himself. The model was first ever presented to public during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show after being styled by Italian car designer, Fabio Filippini, alongside Luca Borgogno at Pininfarina. Lacking a roof and a windshield, two helmets are housed in a storage locker that was developed by Pininfarina in collaboration with Newmax. The C-pillars of the Sergio were stretched forward by the designers in order to create somewhat of a floating canopy, which serves as a rollover structure, and a place to support the floating headrests. The Sergio features a full carbon fiber body, with aerodynamics that were developed in the Grugliasco wind tunnel. In October of 2014, Ferrari approved the Sergio for production, just in time for Pininfarina’s 85th anniversary as a company. The production car was equipped with a standard windshield, and a removable hardtop roof, as well as a number of other features that were implemented to allow the Sergio to be more realistic for road use. Chassis 205934 shown here is finished in ‘Argento Nürburgring’ over a cream leather interior with red inserts.
