1983 Gebhardt JC02

1983 Gebhardt JC02

The 1983 Gebhardt JC02 (chassis 8302) is one of the world’s most uniquely designed and interesting racing cars in the entire world, and in today’s post, we’ll tell you all the reasons as to why. Back in the early 1980’s, a German motor racing team and constructor named Gebhardt Motorsport was looking to make an appearance at the 1983 Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft racing series, also known simply as DRM. Together Günther and Fritz Gebhardt, who are the brothers who founded the Gebhardt Motorsport company, developed an extremely intriguing racing car known as the JC02. The JC02 looked like nothing else anyone has ever seen before, featuring an attention-grabbing central wing, crocodile-like rear louvers, and bodywork and styling that truly delivers an aerodynamically-focused characteristic overall. The JC02 was only driven for a short period of time in the motorsport world, making an appearance at only a handful of events. Of the small number of events the JC02 was entered, only one of which did the car manage to complete the race, which was 200 Meilen von Nürnberg held in Germany in 1983, where the car achieved a 9th place result, driven by Kennerth Persson. The car was reportedly also used that same year in the Internationales ADAC-Flugplatzrennen Diepholz event, where it was driven by Cliff Hansen, although the result of that race seems to be unknown. The JC02 was racing in a class known as Group C Junior, which was developed for private teams. This class held similar regulations to the traditional group C prototypes, however, a number of restrictions were involved including a minimum total weight of 1,543lbs. The car served as a basis for all of Gebhardt’s future racing designs moving forward. Thank you @carhistorian for the tag and idea! Check out their page for more photos of this unique car!
