1961 Ghia L6.4 Coupe

1961 Ghia L6.4 Coupe

Want to see something really special? Check out this absolutely stunning (1 of 26) 1961 Ghia L6.4 Coupe (chassis 0302), an extremely unique car consisting mostly of Chrysler components that was manufactured by the Michigan based company, Dual-Motors Corporation, and bodied by Italian automobile design and coachbuilding firm, Carrozzeria Ghia SpA. Of the 26 examples produced, this was the very first car off the production line. This Ghia L6.4 model was designed by Ghia designer, Paul Farago, and draws inspiration from Chrysler’s Virgil Exner’s Dodge Firearrow show cars. The L6.4 Ghia costed around $13,500 back in early 1960s, which at the time was more than double the median U.S. family income for that year. The car was built to attract some of the most prominent celebrities at the time such as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, and more! Gene Casaroll, who owned the Dual-Motors Corporation at the time was the original creator of the idea behind this car, which started in 1956 with the ‘Dual-Ghia’, which was a car built from 1958 in very limited numbers that was also suited for only the world’s most wealthy, and prominent people. When the new, even more limited Ghia L6.4 was announced, it also came equipped with a 383 cubic inch, 335hp Chrysler V-8 underneath the hood. The car’s styling is quite dramatic and features an elongated hood, huge three-piece rear window, and loads of chrome bits inside and out. Not only did Ghia hand-build each body, but almost the entire car was hand-built as well including the chassis. With only 26 examples built and sold for the entire world, that makes seeing one of these extremely rare creations out in public extremely special, especially a prototype!
