1987/1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i

1987/1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i

This is the 1987/1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i factory car (001) finished in its period-correct “Porsche Arctic Silver paintwork” with blue Recaro seats. Back in 1982, a company called Isdera AG or Ingenieurbüro für Styling, Design und Racing was born and founded by Eberhard Schulz in Germany. Schulz designed his first car in the late 60’s in the laundry room of his parents home, and later, worked with other well-known companies before starting his own. After multiple low-production, wind-tunnel, concept, mock-ups and prototype projects, finally in 1993, after a six year build, Isdera showed the Commendatore 112i at the Frankfurt Auto Show with the original intention to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans. Isdera went bankrupt shortly after the launch, leaving just one car to be built. Six years later, the car was purchased and heavily revised (not a new car built as many incorrectly state) by a Swiss businessman and renamed to “Silver Arrow” (registered AIC-R 122). This car was displayed at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show. Following this the car was sold off to Switzerland (registered SG 1809). The car was returned to its 1993 IAA presentation configuration in 2017 under ownership of Sinfonia Automotive AG (now ISDERA AG), and was subsequently registered SLS-CW 112. An agreement between a very enthusiastic Isdera aficionado and Eberhard Schulz himself led to the construction of a second example beginning in 2012 on a spare tubular frame. The car was built however, without the approval of Schulz after the new owner opted for a number of modifications that did not align with Schulz’s vision for the car. This second car (ES-UK 112 H), while slightly different from the original, was built using authentic Isdera materials and technology including the original molds for the bodywork, and the work was carried out over six years at the owner’s home.
