This beautiful car pictured here is a numbers-matching 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V-12 Roadster finished in black with a black leather interior and black canvas convertible soft top. Originally, this car is believed to have been painted Old English White over a Dark Blue interior from the factory. This example was constructed on October 20th of 1972, and was first dispatched on December 22nd of 1972. The original distributor for this car was British Leyland Motors in New York, and the car boasts its numbers-matching 7S8533LA engine, body number 4S2771 and gearbox number KL3938. The E-Types eye-catching design was styled by aircraft engineer & automotive aerodynamist, Malcom Slayer. Before production, a series of concepts had been developed, one of which called the E1A, which had a monocoque design that was created in 1957 by William Heynes, who was then serving as Technical Director and Chief Engineer. The E-Type was introduced to the world in two-seater coupé form, two-seater convertible form, and the lengthened ‘2+2’ four-seater version of the coupé which came in 1966. These first examples were considered ‘Series 1’ E-Types (1961–68), while later models of the E-Type were officially designated as ‘Series 2’ (1968–71) and ‘Series 3’ cars (1971–74). Also worth nothing, before the introduction of the Series 2 E-Type, there was a transitional series of cars constructed in 1967/68 as model year 1968 cars, unofficially called ‘Series 1½’. The Series 3 E-Type was officially introduced in the year 1971 and with that came an all new 5.3 L Jaguar V12 engine, standard power steering and plenty of new options such as wire wheels, air conditioning, and more. The Series 3 is easily distinguished from earlier cars by it’s larger ‘V12’ badging on the rear and quad exhaust tips, amongst a number of other noticeable elements.
