These photos taken by @rmsothebys showcase a car that is 1 of just 5 of it’s kind ever created for the entire world, and it’s the 1993 TWR Jaguar XJ220 S, chassis 779, finished in ‘Outrageous Orange’ (originally believed to be finished in ‘Daytona Black’ over a ‘Smoke Grey’ interior. This example was constructed on the 4th of March in the year 1993, and was dispatched on April 21st of that year. The standard XJ220 model was produced under a subsidiary known as ‘JaguarSport’, and it was first ever shown at the Birmingham Auto Show in 1988. As far as the “S” variant of the XJ220 goes, TWR completed 9 total cars, but only 5 of those were made as road-going models. The ‘S’ serves as a road-going homologated version of the 1 of 3 Jaguar XJ220-C (001, 002, and 003), and due to this, the car features a stripped down race-orientated setup with an interior that includes kevlar racing seats, and a roll cage. In addition to the race-oriented XJ220-C, TWR developed these 5 total ‘S’ cars all to meet homologation requirements, and all believed to have been converted from previous bone-stock XJ220 cars used in a summer-long elimination competition known as the ‘Fast Masters’ series. The XJ220 S examples were nicknamed ‘The Opal Fruit Cars’ by a number of TWR engineers, and the original colors were Red (793), Green (802), Yellow (803), Blue (784) and Orange (779). The XJ220 S utilizes panels and other parts made with carbon fiber composites, as well as a new aerodynamic package. This example was purchased new by a Belgian collector in February of 1998, and was subsequently brought to Keuylian Motors in the US in 1999 via European Auto Sales. A recent sighting of this car took place in November of 2022 when it was sold by @rmsothebys in London after spending 10 years in @jasdhillon67’s collection.
How many made? The five XJ220 S examples are 220803, 220802, 220793, 220784 and 220779. 220801 is a one–off race variant.
